Jessica Pegula advances to the US Open semi-finals for the second consecutive year
The American tennis player Jessica Pegula, currently number 4 in the world and the highest ranked from her country at the US Open, reached the semifinals for the second consecutive year. Pegula defeated Barbora Krejcikova with a score of 6-3 and 6-3 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Pegula, who was runner-up last year against Aryna Sabalenka, has secured her place in the semifinals without losing a single set in this edition of the tournament.
The last player to reach the US Open semi-finals two years in a row without losing a set was Serena Williams, who achieved this feat four times in a row, from 2011 to 2014.
So far in the tournament, Pegula has only been pushed beyond 5-5 in a set once, which occurred in the second set of her third-round match against Victoria Azarenka.
In the next round, the Buffalo tennis player could face Sabalenka for a place in the final.
Krejcikova, a two-time Grand Slam champion, was coming off an intense third-round match against American Taylor Townsend, which lasted more than three hours.
