Brentford forward Yoane Wissa has urged the club to keep their word and allow him to leave before the transfer deadline on Monday. In an Instagram post on Sunday, the 28-year-old player stated that the club has “significantly changed its stance” after having “put in writing” that he could leave if a fair offer came in. Newcastle had rejected a bid of 35 million pounds sterling ($47.26 million) plus add-ons in early August for the striker, who scored 19 goals in the Premier League last season.

Earlier this summer, I held open conversations with the club’s senior management, including key directors and the new coach. I made my intention to explore a new challenge clear.

During these conversations, it was confirmed to me and my representatives that the club would not stand in my way if a reasonable offer was received. This was also put in writing.

However, as the deadline approaches, the club has significantly changed its stance, going against what was communicated.

This has left me in a difficult and frustrating position. The commitment that I could leave this summer has not been fulfilled.

Meanwhile, I must do what I believe is right for my career and my family and I insist that Brentford keep their word to let me join a new club and at a fair price.

The forward hasn’t played this season, and coach Keith Andrews explained his absence after last week’s victory over Aston Villa, saying he wanted his players to be “absolutely committed”. It was reported in July that the player returned early from the club’s training camp in Portugal after making it clear that he wanted to sign for Newcastle. The player added: “Being forced to stay beyond this summer will only tarnish four wonderful years at this incredible club and, therefore, I ask the owners and directors of Brentford to now keep their word to let me leave in the final hours of the market.” Newcastle announced the signing of Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart on Saturday, but remains active in the market amid speculation about the transfer of star striker Alexander Isak.
