Borussia Dortmund takes action after incident with the Bellingham family

Borussia Dortmund has decided to restrict access to the locker rooms and player areas for parents, after an incident with Jobe Bellingham’s father. Mark Bellingham traveled from England to witness his son’s debut in the Bundesliga against St. Pauli. However, after the match, an altercation occurred in a restricted area of the stadium while speaking with sports director Sebastian Kehl. According to reports, Jobe Bellingham’s father questioned the decision to substitute his son at halftime.

“I wasn’t present at the conversation,” said Lars Ricken, Dortmund’s managing director, who announced that in the future only players, coaches and authorized personnel will have access to the changing rooms.

Ricken also downplayed the seriousness of the disagreement.
Jobe Bellingham has followed in his brother's footsteps by joining Borussia Dortmund.
Kehl declared to a tabloid that “the active area is and will remain restricted for players, coaches and official staff, not for family members or agents. That will not happen again. That is what we have made clear to all parties involved”. Jobe Bellingham had an unfortunate debut in the German league in Hamburg. Dortmund drew 3-3 with St. Pauli, with Bellingham being substituted at halftime by Felix Nmecha. In contrast, in his Bundesliga debut for the club in September 2020, Jude Bellingham assisted a goal in Dortmund’s 3-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach. Jobe’s older brother joined Real Madrid in 2023.
