The renowned point guard John Wall, after eleven seasons in the NBA, has announced his retirement from the courts.
Wall, 34, developed most of his professional career with the Washington Wizards, the team that selected him as the first pick in the 2010 draft from Kentucky. The point guard, a five-time All-Star, ends his career with averages of 18.7 points and 8.9 assists per game.
Today, I leave the court, but I don’t walk away from the game. Basketball will always be in my life and new opportunities arise. I feel it’s time to confidently walk towards my next chapter.
In addition to his time with the Wizards, Wall played for the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers.
In his best season, during the 2016-17 period, he averaged 23.1 points and 10.7 assists with the Wizards, being recognized with a mention in the third All-NBA team.
Wall stood out as one of the fastest and most athletic point guards in his prime, being crowned champion of the slam dunk contest in 2014. He was also an elite defender, making the second All-Defensive team in 2015.
Injuries marked the second half of his career. In the last six seasons, he never played more than half the games and did not play in the last two years.
