Najee Harris Could Be Ready for Week 1 Against the Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz has expressed optimism about running back Najee Harris’s participation in the first game of the season. Harris has been on the non-football injury/illness list throughout training camp. This statement from Hortiz comes as a surprise, considering the lack of commitment from coach Jim Harbaugh regarding Harris’s status during the preseason. The incident that led to Harris being on the NFI list occurred during a fireworks accident on July 4th, causing an eye injury. The secrecy surrounding Harris’s injury is a common practice of Harbaugh, who does not provide injury updates until the league requires it, which is until the week before Week 1. Harris, who has never missed a game in his NFL career, participated in drills for the first time in the preseason on August 12. Despite working separately with a trainer during the last weeks of the camp, and having been seen on the field with a helmet and visor or dark glasses, it seems that he has a real chance to be on the field for the Chargers in Week 1.“Najee is doing very well, going through all the medical processes. But he’s on his way, and I think he should be able to play, hopefully in Week 1.”
