Vergil Ortiz vs. Erickson Lubin: Clash of Titans in November
The expected return of Vergil Ortiz (23-0, 21 KOs) to the ring is confirmed. On November 8th, Ortiz will defend his WBC interim super welterweight title against Erickson Lubin at the Dickies Center in Fort Worth, TX. The event, announced by Golden Boy Promotions, promises to be a night of intense action and will be broadcast live worldwide via DAZN. For Ortiz, this fight represents an opportunity to fight at home, following his outstanding decision victory over Israil Madrimov in February. The boxer expressed his enthusiasm for being part of this event:Although this would not be the initially planned fight for Ortiz, the situation led to this high-caliber confrontation. Ortiz, 27 years old, had his sights set on WBO champion Xander Zayas, and both exchanged provocations on social media. An offer was made to Zayas’ promoter, Top Rank, with a deadline to accept. However, no agreement was reached, which led Ortiz’s management to quickly secure a fight with Lubin. Rumors also surfaced about a possible match between Ortiz and Jaron “Boots” Ennis in 2026. Ortiz’s manager, Rick Mirigan, commented on the difficulties in finding an opponent for Ortiz:“I’m always happy to participate in the fights that the fans want to see.”

Lubin (27-2, 19 KOs), currently ranked number 1 in the super welterweight division by the IBF, will seek to pull off an upset and obtain the most important victory of his career on his path to the world championship. Lubin has achieved three consecutive victories after his fight against Sebastian Fundora in April 2022. Lubin, 29, has victories over Jeison Rosario and Jesus Ramos. His other loss was against Jermell Charlo in a fight for the WBC super welterweight title in 2017, where he suffered a knockout in the first round. Lubin expressed his determination for this fight:“Golden Boy literally tried with all the important opponents available and nobody wanted to fight Vergil. Even His Excellency (Turki Alalshikh) tried by offering ‘Boots’ a life-changing sum of money and he refused a warm-up fight. Vergil Ortiz is the most feared man in boxing. Credit to Lubin for doing what nobody else would.”

“This is the moment I’ve been waiting for. This fight is about redemption; I’m back for everything.”
