Bruce Bochy Absent from Game for Personal Matters
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy will not be present for Wednesday night’s game against the Kansas City Royals due to a personal matter.
The bench coach, Luis Urueta, will be in charge of managing the team in Bochy’s absence.
The Rangers have had a disappointing season, considering the expectations. After winning their first World Series championship two years ago, in Bochy’s return as manager, the team finished with a 78-84 record last year. Before Wednesday’s game, they were in third place in the American League West Division, with a 62-65 record. Despite leading the majors with a 3.46 ERA, their offense is among the worst in the league.
Bochy, 70 years old, ranks sixth on the all-time wins list in baseball, with 2,233 victories. Throughout his 28 seasons as a manager, he has won four World Series championships, managing the San Diego, San Francisco, and Texas teams. He led the Giants to three titles between 2007 and 2019.
