Tottenham Hotspur footballer Mathys Tel has expressed his firm stance against racial abuse after being the victim of attacks on social media. Tel, 20 years old, was subjected to racist insults after missing a penalty in Tottenham’s defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in last week’s UEFA Super Cup. The club issued a statement expressing its “disgust” at the attacks.

In a message posted on Instagram on Tuesday, the French under-21 international, whose transfer from Bayern Munich to Tottenham was made permanent in June for 30 million pounds, wrote:
