Tension in the Titans’ Camp: Cam Ward and Jeffery Simmons Star in Confrontation
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The atmosphere at the Tennessee Titans training camp heated up during a day with temperatures reaching 96 degrees Fahrenheit. Quarterback Cam Ward and defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons were involved in an altercation on Monday. The situation unfolded after Ward connected on a touchdown pass with Calvin Ridley near the end of practice. In the celebration, the young quarterback shoved Simmons before performing his signature “Zombieland” celebration in front of him. Simmons’ reaction was immediate, responding with a shove with both hands to Ward’s helmet. The offensive line immediately came to the defense of their quarterback.Although they managed to separate Simmons and Ward, Simmons’ helmet was removed during the fight. Ward returned for the next play, while Simmons left the field. Practice ended two plays later. Titans coach Brian Callahan made the team run after the conclusion of practice.Absolutely not. That is something that doesn’t need to be said.

Ridley’s touchdown and the subsequent confrontation between Ward and Simmons occurred after running back Julius Chestnut reached the end zone following a short run. Chestnut scored thanks to the block by right tackle JC Latham, who took Simmons out of the play and then exchanged words with him until the next play. Simmons has been involved in constant verbal exchanges with several members of the offense, especially with Latham and Ward. Neither Ward nor Simmons offered statements after practice. You get the same attitude, confidence, and that same intensity every day from these two guys. That’s what you expect. But when it happens with the quarterback, you have to stop it as soon as possible. But brothers fight.

You never want to see your quarterback in the middle of those kinds of situations. But when it happens, it shows you the grit he has. He’s not going to stay quiet.
