AC Milan has confirmed its interest in signing Rasmus Højlund, Manchester United’s striker, after he was excluded from Ruben Amorim’s team for the Premier League opening match against Arsenal.
United suffered a 1-0 defeat against Mikel Arteta’s team at Old Trafford. Amorim chose to field Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in attacking positions, and left Benjamin Sesko on the bench, relegating Højlund to the stands.
After scoring just 14 goals in 62 Premier League appearances since his £72 million transfer from Atalanta in August 2023, Højlund has been informed he can leave United, despite expressing his desire to fight for a place in the team.Rasmus Højlund parece estar cerca de abandonar el Man United. With a good reputation in Italy after his time at Atalanta, Milan is interested in bringing the Danish international back to Serie A.
“Højlund is a good option for us,” Milan sporting director Igli Tare told Mediaset on Sunday. “We are thinking about him, but in the transfer market you never know what can happen.”
Sources close to the club have reported that United are looking for a fee close to £30 million for Højlund, while Milan prefers a loan or a lower fee.
However, with the closing of the transfer market on September 1, United manager Ruben Amorim did not commit when asked on Sunday if Højlund had a future at Old Trafford.
“He’s our player, we have to make decisions,” said Amorim. “We have players who have to stay helping the team from the outside.”
“He has to fight for his place. We’ll see what’s going to happen. Rasmus has the same characteristics as Sesko, so sometimes we have to choose.”
