Højgaard seeks momentum in Denmark for the Ryder Cup

Nicolai Højgaard, hoping to boost his aspirations for the European Team Ryder Cup, is participating in this week’s DP World Tour event in his native Denmark. His performance on Thursday certainly captured attention. Højgaard achieved a remarkable feat by recording two eagles in a span of three holes, both with direct shots to the hole, during the first round of the Danish Golf Championship, finishing with a score of 68 strokes, three under par. The first eagle, on the 12th hole, a par 4, came from 112 yards away. Højgaard sent his approach from the fairway, the ball went past the hole and rolled back in. To the ovation of the public, he threw his club in the air and high-fived his caddie before heading to the hole.

But it didn’t stop there. Two holes later, on the par-4 14th hole, Højgaard’s approach from the fairway bounced on the green and quickly disappeared into the hole for another eagle-2.

It was something very special. I needed a little boost to get started. On the 11th, I made a good 4 and gave myself a little fist pump. I felt it was important for the next series of holes… It was great to see that.

Højgaard praised the public’s reaction to each eagle. It was special. It was great to see them go crazy. I don’t know how to react when you do something like that. Højgaard started the week in 26th place in the Ryder Cup standings for Europe. He was part of the team that defeated the United States in Italy in 2023.
