Matthew Stafford Shows Progress in His Recovery
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who is dealing with back discomfort, had a promising throwing session on Saturday morning, according to coach Sean McVay. Stafford completed 68 passes at the Rams’ training facility. Subsequently, he was present on the bench during the preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night. The quarterback has not participated in training practices due to back discomfort.McVay added that Stafford will participate in individual drills on Monday during practice. When asked if Stafford still feels pain or discomfort in his back, McVay responded: “I don’t know. That’s something they would have to talk to him about.” At the beginning of the week, McVay emphasized that, although the Rams are being cautious with Stafford’s back, he would be available to play if it were the regular season. McVay also communicated that the Rams and Los Angeles Chargers will not hold the joint practice scheduled for Wednesday. He explained that the Chargers have “some injured players” at this point in training camp. The Rams did not plan for Stafford to participate in that joint practice due to the “uncontrolled parameters” of facing another team, according to McVay earlier in the week.“It was amazing,” McVay commented on Stafford’s training. “He looked good. He threw the ball very well. There were no limitations on the types of throws: long, intermediate, short. We were moving the release point, and it felt very good. We are looking forward to him practicing again on Monday, but it was a good step in the right direction.”
