Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Receives the Keys to Hamilton and Honors for His NBA Success

In a moving ceremony held at Hamilton Stadium, NBA star and Most Valuable Player (MVP), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, was presented with the key to the city by Mayor Andrea Horwath. The event, which took place on Thursday, also revealed that a street will bear his name, a tribute to his outstanding season leading the Thunder towards the NBA championship.

“I grew up traveling all over the world, to countless states, cities, and countries, and people always asked me where I was from,” commented Gilgeous-Alexander before an euphoric crowd in the north scoring zone, after lifting the NBA champion trophy.

The player expressed pride in representing Hamilton, highlighting the city’s uniqueness and the spirit of its inhabitants.

“Hamilton is unlike any other city in Ontario, Hamiltonians have a different sense of grit, determination, pride, and energy than the rest of the province and, frankly, I couldn’t help but embrace that. I carry it with me every day and everywhere I go, so you can only imagine the overwhelming joy I felt when I learned I was going to receive the key to the city I love and a street named after me.”
