Shedeur Sanders Ready to Lead Browns in Preseason Opener
According to sources close to the team, rookie Shedeur Sanders is expected to be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in their first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers this Friday. Sanders, selected in the fifth round of this year’s draft, was the second quarterback drafted by the Browns, after Dillon Gabriel, who was chosen in the third round. Both rookies have been competing for Cleveland’s QB1 position along with veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. Former Pro Bowl player Tyler Huntley also joined the team this week.Although Sanders has had fewer opportunities with the starters during training camp, Pickett and Gabriel’s hamstring injuries, added to Flacco’s age and experience, 40 years old, could have paved the way for Sanders to play his first game in the NFL. Flacco has had the most repetitions with the starters in camp.
The Browns will begin their joint practices with the Panthers in Charlotte, North Carolina, this Wednesday, before facing off in Friday’s game.
