Olympic Boxing Champion, Lazizbek Mullojonov, Provisionally Suspended for Doping
The International Testing Agency (ITA) has announced the provisional suspension of the Olympic heavyweight boxing champion, Lazizbek Mullojonov, after testing positive for a prohibited substance. The 26-year-old Uzbek boxer was subjected to an out-of-competition doping control on June 11, where methasterone was detected. This substance is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid that is associated with the rapid increase of muscle mass, strength, and power. If the analysis of sample B is requested and the result of sample A is confirmed, the case will be considered a confirmed anti-doping rule violation, according to the ITA. Similarly, if the analysis of sample B is not requested, the case will also proceed as a confirmed violation. The agency also indicated that “the athlete will have the opportunity to present their explanations about the result”. Mullojonov also won the bronze medal in the heavyweight event at the IBA World Boxing Championships 2023 and a gold medal in super heavyweight at the 2022 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships.“The athlete has been informed about the case and has the right to request the analysis of the B sample,” the ITA communicated in an official statement.
