United States women’s national team forward Ally Sentnor joins the NWSL-leading Kansas City Current from the Utah Royals. In a move that sets a new league record, Utah will receive $600,000 in guaranteed transfer funds within the same NWSL. Additionally, a future sale clause has been confirmed, which could mean 20% of a future transfer. According to sources close to the agreement, the Royals will not receive players in return. Kansas City could send Utah up to an additional $100,000 in performance bonuses in the future. The payment from Kansas City to Utah will be spread over several years to balance the impact on the NWSL transfer limit. Utah received $300,000 immediately and will receive $200,000 next year and $100,000 in 2027. During the summer, Utah considered trade talks for Sentnor with several NWSL teams.
Sentnor has four goals in 12 appearances with the USWNT and was named U.S. Soccer’s 2024 Young Female Player of the Year. The Utah Royals selected Sentnor with the number 1 pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft, which turned out to be the last draft before the league’s new collective bargaining agreement abolished drafts. This season, Sentnor has recorded a goal and an assist for the Royals, who are at the bottom of the table. He has started in all 13 of Utah’s matches, which has only managed one victory. Kansas City, which already has great offensive talent, leads the NWSL, with an eight-point lead over the Orlando Pride, which is in second place. Thanks to the Royals for selecting this small-town girl and giving me the opportunity to start the dream of my life of playing professional soccer. Thank you for the opportunities and experiences on and off the field.
