Pegula, defending champion, eliminated at the Canadian Open
In a surprising day at the National Bank Open, American tennis player Jessica Pegula, double defending champion, was eliminated in the third round of the tournament.
Pegula fell to Latvian Anastasija Sevastova with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Sevastova, who reached number 11 in the world in 2018, is currently ranked 386th.
Sevastova managed to break Pegula’s serve, the third seed, on six out of ten occasions.
This defeat adds to a negative streak for Pegula, who, despite winning her first match in Montreal against Maria Sakkari of Greece, had already been eliminated at Wimbledon and the D.C. Open in July.Osaka advances to the next round
Naomi Osaka, for her part, secured her place in the fourth round after defeating Jelena Ostapenko with a score of 6-2, 6-4.
