Trent Thornton Suffers Injury and Leaves the Game
Seattle Mariners reliever Trent Thornton suffered an injury while covering first base in the ninth inning of Thursday night’s game, being carted off the field on a stretcher during the 6-0 victory over the Texas Rangers. Thornton, seen using crutches in the locker room after the game, still does not have an official diagnosis regarding the injury to his left leg that he suffered after Adolis García’s hit with two outs.Thornton, who entered the game to start the eighth inning, retired the first five batters he faced. Then, with a full count against Garcia, the batter hit a ground ball at 95 mph. It’s probably the Achilles tendon, but that’s just speculation, so I’ll know tomorrow. Very frustrating.

Thornton explained that his first reaction was to look at his leg to see what had happened.I threw the pitch, and as soon as I turned around, I thought I had broken the guy’s bat and it hit me in the back of the leg, and I fell.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson praised Thornton’s performance before the injury.I tried to get up and couldn’t even put any pressure on it. It didn’t hurt. It just aches and is numb. But I guess I don’t know. I’m still trying to process this a little bit, and I’ll know more tomorrow.
