The new additions Luka Modrić and Mexican striker Santiago Giménez will not be part of AC Milan’s pre-season tour of the Asia-Pacific region.
The Milan coach, Massimiliano Allegri, has called up 26 players for the tour, which includes three friendly matches in nine days. They will face Arsenal on Wednesday in Singapore before playing against Liverpool, Premier League champion, three days later in Hong Kong.
Milan will end the tour against Perth Glory on July 31 in Australia.
Modrić, 39, is currently on vacation after playing with Real Madrid in the Club World Cup. The Croatian midfielder joined Milan as a free agent last week after leaving Madrid as the most decorated player in its history, with 28 titles.
Giménez is also scheduled to join the preseason on August 4. The Mexican international is on vacation after helping his national team win the tenth edition of the Gold Cup earlier this month. Giménez scored five goals in 14 league appearances for Milan since joining the club in February from Feyenoord. Milan finished eighth in Serie A last season and missed out on a European spot.“We hope to see him on August 4th,” Allegri said about Modrić before his team’s pre-season tour. “He is a champion and will raise the technical and leadership level.”
Allegri
Allegri recently returned to Milan for a second spell, replacing the dismissed Sérgio Conceição. He led Milan to the league title in 2011.“Our main goal is to play in the Champions League again, which will not be easy because there are very well-equipped and competitive teams in Italy,” said Allegri.
