Mets’ Pete Alonso Suffers Contusion on Right Hand

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso was scratched from the starting lineup on Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds due to a right hand contusion. Alonso, who holds the franchise record with 353 consecutive games played, felt discomfort in the “base of the thumb area,” according to Mets manager Carlos Mendoza.

“He felt it in the first at-bats [on Saturday],” Mendoza said on Sunday. “He’s day-to-day. He’s getting treatment and says he’s much better this morning.”
