After a difficult start at the Open Championship with an initial round of 78 strokes, Bryson DeChambeau demonstrated his resilience and talent with three consecutive rounds under par. His performance culminated in an impressive card of 64 strokes on Sunday, which secured him a place in the top ten in a major championship for the seventh time in his last eleven participations.

I always told them, I like it when the conditions are fair. I still have to decipher the code when it rains and is windy. It was three fun days. I’m very proud of how I reversed it and gave myself some hope.

This result will likely secure DeChambeau a spot on the U.S. team for the Ryder Cup. Before this week, the two-time US Open winner was ranked fifth in the standings, behind Russell Henley, Xander Schauffele, J.J. Spaun, and Scottie Scheffler. The top six players in the standings automatically qualify for the team that will face the Europeans at Bethpage State Park in September. The captain, Keegan Bradley, will select the remaining six players.

I hope to bring a lot of energy and a tsunami of fans that will cheer on Team USA.

Bryson DeChambeau, tras el Open Championship, dijo que aún necesitaba “descifrar el código cuando llueve y hace viento”, y firmó un 64 en condiciones perfectas el domingo para terminar con 9 bajo par.
DeChambeau commented that his experience playing team golf in LIV has taught him that the best approach to being in a team environment is to “allow each individual to be the best they can be to contribute to the team”. That’s all. Don’t try to put someone in a bubble and say, ‘you need to do this; you need to do that’. Having been on the losing side (2018 in France) and the winning side (2021 at Whistling Straits) of two Ryder Cup teams, DeChambeau was not part of the team that traveled to Rome and lost against the Europeans in 2023.

This year is no joke. We’re tired of it. We’re tired of losing.

Bradley was also on the field this week and finished with 4 under par. While there has been much talk about whether Bradley should be a playing captain on the team, Bradley said he has not yet made any decision, but added that there is a contingency plan in case he ends up on the team. According to DeChambeau, Bradley made an effort to give something to each potential player who could be on the team this week. DeChambeau said he spoke with him briefly, and then put something in the lockers that was very inspiring, “It meant a lot”.
