Isaac de Jesús Fernández Reyes, alias “Cucito”, dies after police confrontation in Santiago
Last Friday night, a police operation in the Cuesta Colorada sector, in Santiago, ended with the death of Isaac de Jesús Fernández Reyes, known in the criminal world as “Cucito.” The 22-year-old lost his life after receiving multiple gunshot wounds during a raid carried out by National Police agents on Invi Avenue in the aforementioned area.
According to the preliminary report from the authorities, the death occurred during an exchange of gunfire. In the same incident, Corporal Rafael Gómez de la Cruz, a member of the elite SWAT unit, was wounded while performing his duties during the intervention.
Criminal record and evidence under investigation
The National Police reported that Fernández Reyes was a priority target for the authorities. Upon being verified in the criminal consultation system, the young man had an extensive criminal record that included:
- Five criminal records for various offenses.
- Links to robbery and homicide cases.
- An active travel ban.
- Other pending judicial matters.
The recordings in which he appears showing different firearms take on special interest in the context of the investigations. However, it has not yet been publicly established whether the weapons displayed in those audiovisuals are linked to specific criminal acts or correspond to evidence seized by the authorities.
