Thiago Alcántara close to returning to Barcelona as part of Hansi Flick’s coaching staff
Barcelona is about to finalize the return of Thiago Alcántara, who would join the coaching staff led by coach Hansi Flick in the coming weeks, according to sources close to the club.
Thiago, trained in the Barcelona youth academy, already collaborated with Flick upon his arrival at Barcelona last summer, facilitating his adaptation to the team. However, bureaucratic problems forced him to leave his position and return to Liverpool, where he resided after finishing his playing career.
Since his return to Barcelona, Thiago has been waiting for an offer to rejoin Flick’s team. The club’s financial restrictions have delayed his definitive appointment, but it is reported that Barça is working on agreements to generate the necessary salary space.
Thiago and Flick already coincided at Bayern Munich, where the midfielder was key in obtaining the treble in 2020.
At 34 years old, Thiago will focus on supporting the young talents of the team, helping them adapt to the demands of the German coach.
After his time at La Masia, Thiago played 101 matches with Barcelona’s first team before signing for Bayern Munich in 2013. Subsequently, in 2020, he joined Liverpool, where he played 98 matches, and announced his early retirement in 2024.
