Ministry of Sports begins construction of modern multipurpose facility in Eugenio María de Hostos
The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, broke ground for the start of construction work on the new multipurpose covered facility in the municipality of Eugenio María de Hostos, Duarte province. The project, which has an investment of 30,681,336.71 pesos, is part of the strategic plan promoted by the Government to guarantee quality sports facilities in every municipality in the country.
During the event, the head of the sports portfolio highlighted the positive impact that this project will have on the youth and the social integration of the community. The main objective is to provide the district with a dignified, modern, and functional space that encourages the practice of various disciplines.
Today is a very special day, a day of hope, with a project worth more than 30 million pesos, which will be available not only to the youth, but to the entire community. This will be a true center, as Hostos deserves. Thank you to President Luis Abinader for his commitment to ensuring that every municipality in the country has a worthy roofed facility that benefits the youth and the entire community.

Technical details of the work
The infrastructure is designed to be a comprehensive sports center. The construction work covers an area of 1,200 square meters of metal structure, ensuring a covered space suitable for tournaments and constant practice.
- Functional areas: The design includes the construction of restrooms, locker rooms, an administrative office, and a cafeteria.
- Sports infrastructure: The court will feature a synthetic floor, professional backboards endorsed by FIBA, a digital scoreboard, and a 24-second shot clock.
- Additional equipment: The supply of volleyball posts, nets, and sleeves will be included, as well as a complete electrical system.
- External improvements: The project includes earthworks, new bleachers, perimeter sidewalks, and a complete enclosure of the intervened area.
The governor of the Duarte province, Xiomara Cortés, together with the mayor of Hostos, Eladio de la Rosa, expressed their gratitude for this initiative that will transform the sports landscape of the region, providing local athletes with the necessary conditions for their professional development.
