Santo Domingo becomes the regional epicenter of energy with the XI Olade Week
The Dominican Republic assumes leadership in the continental energy debate by kicking off the XI Energy Week of the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (Olade). This important meeting, which runs from October 6 to 9 at the El Embajador hotel, brings together ministers and representatives from 27 nations, consolidating itself as a key space for regional integration.
With an attendance exceeding 3,000 participants and the involvement of 200 international panelists, the event seeks to outline a clear roadmap to address the sector’s challenges. The agenda, organized in conjunction with the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM), is structured around four fundamental pillars:
- Security of electricity supply.
- Advances in rural and urban electrification.
- Regional energy integration.
- Financing mechanisms for the energy transition.
The Dominican Republic becomes this week a convergence point for long-term planning, regulatory harmonization, and the building of agreements that promote greater regional energy integration.
Joel Santos, Minister of Energy and Mines
Minister Joel Santos highlighted that this conclave is a strategic opportunity for the country to advance in the coordination of common policies, strengthening the resilience of electrical systems and promoting a more diversified and sustainable energy matrix in the face of constant demand growth.
Boosting innovation and young talent
As a prelude to the main event, various academic and technical sessions focused on innovation and knowledge exchange have been held since October 2nd. Notable is the “Connecting minds, energizing the future” meeting, held at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), where the Vice Minister of Nuclear Energy, Gaddis Corporán, and the Executive Secretary of Olade, Andrés Rebolledo, led discussions on energy poverty and efficiency in urban environments.
The participation of international experts, including the keynote address by South Korean specialist Kim Youngyoo, reinforces this meeting’s commitment to integrating global perspectives that allow for the mobilization of investments and ensure a more equitable energy future for the entire region.
