Boosting rural production in Higüey with new agricultural infrastructure

The province of La Altagracia takes a step forward in strengthening its agricultural sector. With the inauguration of modern facilities dedicated to the washing, collection, and packaging of products, producers in Higüey now have key tools to raise the quality standards of their harvests and optimize their commercialization.

The Minister of Agriculture, Francisco Oliverio Espaillat Bencosme, toured the María Ruiz community to inspect the shade house and the local Washing and Packing Center. During the visit, the official highlighted the positive impact these works generate both on the efficiency of the field and on the economic well-being of the families that depend on agriculture.

A joint effort for food security

This project is part of the Family Farming and Rural Development Program, an international initiative that has the strategic collaboration of entities such as the FAO, the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), the Supérate program, and the Ministry of Agriculture.

  • Improvement of food security in the region.
  • Generation of sustainable income for vulnerable families.
  • Optimization of post-harvest processes through professional washing and packaging.
  • Value addition to local products for better market positioning.

Joint work between national and international organizations is vital to expand productive opportunities and transform the living conditions of our farmers.
