Rafael Úbeda, Former Key Executive of the Tigres del Licey, Passes Away

Santo Domingo. Los Tigres del Licey deeply regret the passing of Rafael Úbeda, who was a key member of the club’s board of directors for several decades. Úbeda, at 62 years old, was facing health problems that had restricted his active participation in the organization.The news was confirmed by Miguel Guerra Armenteros, president of the blue team, who expressed his sorrow for the loss of a colleague valued for his impeccable career in Dominican baseball.

Ubeda was a man of great value to Licey, his dedication and leadership will always be remembered.

Ubeda had multiple roles within the team, starting as a vocal substitute, then vocal, and later secretary, a position he held until 2023. In the current board, he was one of the four organization directors.Considered a leadership figure within the franchise, he was even part of the succession line to preside over the club. However, he decided not to run in the most recent elections, held in June.Rafael Úbeda was born on June 1, 1963. He studied at Loyola School and graduated in Business Administration from APEC University. He also studied Agribusiness in Boston, following the family tradition linked to the sugar industry. He was the nephew of Miguel Heded, who presided over Licey between 1997 and 2002.He was married to Olga Reyes Menéndez and was the father of Javier Antonio and Amanda Isabel Úbeda Reyes, the latter being the team’s godmother in the franchise’s centenary in 2007.
