Steve Allan Wins the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open
Steve Allan made history by becoming the first wire-to-wire winner at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open. On Sunday, Allan closed with a round of 6-under par, a 66, securing a four-stroke victory.With a total of 18 under par, 198 strokes at the En-Joie Golf Course, the 51-year-old Australian added his second victory of the season on the PGA Tour Champions. Allan started Friday with an impressive 63, giving him a two-stroke lead, and maintained the lead with a 69 on Saturday, ahead by one stroke over Boo Weekley before the final round.
After playing the first seven holes on Sunday at 1 under par, including two birdies and a bogey, Allan achieved five birdies in the following six holes and par in the last five.Allan also took the victory at The Galleri Classic at the end of March in Mission Hills, Rancho Mirage, California. Jason Caron finished second after a round of 68. Weekley (70) and Notah Begay III (67) tied for third place at 13 under par, while Soren Kjeldsen (64) was one stroke behind, along with Michael Wright (67) and Jeff Sluman (68). Padraig Harrington did not participate in the event this year, as he chose to play in the Scottish Open. Ernie Els, who will also compete in the British Open, finished with a 69, tying for 16th place with 8 under par.It was tough.
