Santo Domingo Metro operates normally following power failure
The mass transit system of the Dominican capital has resumed its regular operations this Wednesday morning. Following the technical issue recorded the previous night, users report a constant and smooth flow in Line 2 service, meeting the mobility demands of the citizens.
Tranquility returned to the stations after passengers confirmed during the early hours of the day that the service is running without interruptions. “It’s working well today, I haven’t had any problems getting here,” commented one of the users when asked about the current status of the transport.
Details about the incident
The incident that affected the mobility of thousands of people occurred this Tuesday near 6:47 p.m. An electrical failure originating at the García Saleta substation caused a loss of power in the catenary, which forced a partial suspension of service in the section between the Pedro Bonó and Ramón Cáceres stations.
Last night was complicated because the Metro was not running fully, but this morning everything is normal.
Santo Domingo Metro UserTo mitigate the impact of the breakdown, the Metropolitan Transport Company (EMT) activated an immediate response protocol that included:
- Enabling partial services in the unaffected sections.
- Integration of Metropolitan Office of Bus Services (OMSA) units for user transport.
- Intensive technical work to restore power to the catenary.
The responsible entity confirmed that, thanks to the repair work, the service was fully restored at 8:38 p.m. on the same Tuesday. Currently, the institution’s technical team is evaluating the precise causes of the electrical failure to prevent similar incidents in the future.
