Crisis in Nicaragua: Exiles request international intervention to restore democracy
The Nicaraguan Exiles Unit (UEN) has issued an urgent call to the United States Government, requesting that a military intervention in Nicaragua be evaluated. This petition arises as a response to the profound institutional, political, and human rights crisis that the nation is facing under the mandate of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.
The organization, which is operating from abroad, has aligned itself with the position of the Anti-Canal Peasant Movement, consolidating an opposition bloc that demands decisive actions from the international community. The central objective of this request is to halt the current model of government and facilitate a transition toward a functional democratic system.
Concern over reforms and political repression
The members of the UEN have denounced an escalation in the persecution against opposition sectors, pointing to the existence of political prisoners, the suppression of fundamental freedoms, and a constant increase in the number of citizens forced into exile. One of the points of greatest tension is the recent constitutional reform promoted by the Executive, which seeks to electorally disqualify any opposition figure under the label of treason against the country.
