National Police modernizes criminal investigation techniques with a focus on neuroscience
The National Police of the Dominican Republic has taken a significant step toward the professionalization of its investigative bodies by training 80 specialized agents at the international conference titled “Crime Scene Analysis and the Neurobiology of Criminal Behavior.” This program seeks to raise scientific and technical standards in crime resolution, integrating cutting-edge knowledge into police work.
The event, held in the Multipurpose Hall of the Higher Police Education Institute (IPES), was organized by the Central Directorate of Cooperation and International Relations in conjunction with the institution’s educational authorities. The training was aimed at key members of the Central Directorate of Investigation (DICRIM), the Central Directorate of Intelligence (DINTEL), the Scientific Police, and the Specialized Directorate of Judicial Protection.
High-level training to face new challenges
During the academic session, the agents delved into critical areas for the exercise of their duties, such as:
- Advanced crime scene reconstruction.
- Behavioral analysis applied to criminal investigation.
- Application of artificial intelligence in criminal pattern detection.
- Fundamentals of neuroscience and forensic psychopathology.

International experts provide scientific insight
The panel of speakers was led by Spanish criminologist Vicente Luis Planas Gimeno, who emphasized how artificial intelligence is revolutionizing the digital reconstruction of events and the precise analysis of evidence. Complementing this approach, Mexican psychologist Karitina Gutiérrez Castro provided a deep insight into the biological and cerebral factors that condition criminal behavior, addressing topics of impulsivity and decision-making in offenders.
This initiative not only focused on the technical aspect, but also on the emotional management of the agent, providing personnel with personal tools for the exercise of their duties under pressure. With this update, the National Police reaffirms its commitment to institutional modernization, betting on science and innovation as fundamental pillars to guarantee citizen security and effectiveness in solving crimes.
