Indomet warns of downpours and thunderstorms for this Wednesday

The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has issued a report warning of a significant change in weather conditions for this Wednesday. The combination of a tropical wave and the incidence of a trough will create an unstable environment, causing moderate to heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts across much of the national territory.

Although isolated showers will be observed in coastal areas during the early morning hours, the meteorological outlook is expected to deteriorate significantly starting in the afternoon. The increase in humidity and atmospheric instability will be the determining factors for the development of rainy activity.

Provinces under surveillance

The most intense rainfall will be concentrated, mainly, in the following demarcations:

  • Monte Plata
  • Hato Mayor
  • El Seibo
  • Sánchez Ramírez
  • La Vega
  • Northern sectors of Santo Domingo

These conditions are expected to extend to other provinces in the Cibao region and the border area, with much of the electrical activity persisting during the nighttime hours.

Extreme heat persists

Despite the presence of rain, intense heat will continue to be the main feature. Maximum temperatures will range between 34 °C and 36 °C, while minimums will remain between 24 °C and 26 °C. Given this situation, Alofoke Deportes recommends that the public take the necessary preventive measures:

It is vital to stay constantly hydrated, wear light-colored, lightweight clothing, and avoid prolonged sun exposure, especially between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

A special call is made to protect the most vulnerable groups, such as children, the elderly, and pregnant women, ensuring they remain in cool and well-ventilated places.

Forecast for Greater Santo Domingo

In the National District, a gradual increase in cloudiness is expected with possible passing showers in the morning. On the other hand, in Santo Domingo Norte and Santo Domingo Oeste, the sky will remain partly cloudy, giving way to downpours and thunderstorms during the afternoon. In Santo Domingo Este, the outlook will be similar, with isolated morning showers and more pronounced precipitation in the northern sectors of the municipality by late afternoon.
