Jacob Wilson: Health Status After Hand Injury
The news about the injury to Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson’s left hand is encouraging. Although the situation seemed worrying, initial evaluations revealed a less serious picture than expected. Manager Mark Kotsay commented on Wilson’s situation, mentioning that his participation in Tuesday’s All-Star game is uncertain. “That’s the question I can’t answer right now,” Kotsay said before Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Braves. “It’s day to day. We hope he returns before then. There is pain. The positive is that he can take a bat.” Wilson, who was the first rookie chosen by the fans to be the starting shortstop in the All-Star game, was hit on the hand during the first inning of the 10-1 victory over the Braves on Tuesday night. X-rays ruled out a fracture, which relieved the team, as Wilson is not expected to be out of action for long. Wilson is batting .335 with nine home runs and 42 RBIs.I believe we escaped with Jacob yesterday. Every time someone gets hit on the hand, it could have been worse.

In other team-related moves, infielder Miguel Andújar was removed from the 10-day injured list, and outfielder Colby Thomas was sent to Triple-A Las Vegas. Andújar had a batting average of .296 with three home runs and 20 RBIs at the time of his injury. It’s a great relief, no doubt. The anxiety of waiting the 15, 20 minutes after it happened. Nothing broke. It could have been much worse, so everything is fine.
