New legal chapter: Julio Iglesias faces lawsuit over allegations from former employees
The legendary Spanish singer Julio Iglesias is once again at the center of a legal controversy. Two former employees, who have chosen to use the pseudonyms Rebeca and Laura to protect their identities, have filed a new complaint with the Spanish National Court. The plaintiffs are seeking for the justice system to reopen the case to investigate alleged sexual assaults and situations of labor exploitation that reportedly occurred at the artist’s residences located in the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.
This legal move comes after the dismissal of a previous complaint by the Spanish Prosecutor’s Office, which argued at the time that national courts lacked jurisdiction to prosecute crimes allegedly committed outside Spanish territory without direct links to the country.
Details of the accusations
According to information released by the organization Women’s Link, which provides support to the complainants, the lawsuit argues that the performer used his position of power and the women’s vulnerability to take them to his properties. In those places, according to the accounts, they were allegedly subjected to an environment of constant intimidation.

Julio Iglesias’ stance
For his part, Julio Iglesias has maintained a firm stance of denial regarding the allegations. The artist maintains that the accusations lack foundation and, previously, has attempted to refute the versions of the complainants by making public private messages that, according to his defense, contradict the allegations presented against him.
In this new scenario, it will be the Instruction Section of the Central Court of Instruction of Spain that will be in charge of evaluating the elements presented by the plaintiff. The court must determine if there are sufficient merits to initiate a new formal investigation into these serious events that have shaken the career of the renowned singer.
