Seismic safety: More than a thousand buildings evaluated in the Naco sector
As part of a strategic plan for prevention and preparedness against seismic events, Dominican authorities have completed the inspection of 1,089 buildings in the Naco sector, located in the National District. The main objective of this technical survey is to determine the vulnerability level of the structures in the face of potential earthquakes.
Project classification and scope
During the presentation of the details regarding the 2026 National Earthquake Evacuation Drill, it was reported that technical teams are currently in the classification phase of the analyzed properties. Once this process is completed, the findings will be formally shared with local neighborhood associations to ensure transparency and informed decision-making.
The scope of this initiative is not limited solely to Naco, as assessment brigades have begun similar work in the Piantini sector. According to the competent authorities, the goal is to expand these preventive inspections to various areas of the national territory to strengthen urban resilience.
These assessments seek to identify potential weaknesses before an emergency occurs and guide owners on the need to conduct additional studies when the conditions of a structure so require.

This preventive effort responds to growing public concern regarding structural safety. Currently, there are more than 2,000 pending evaluation requests, reflecting the population’s interest in knowing the condition of their buildings. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to continue these surveys throughout the country, promoting a culture of prevention that allows for the mitigation of risks in the face of future seismic movements.
