The Kansas City Royals have placed outfielder Mark Canha on the 10-day injured list due to a left elbow injury. Canha, who arrived at the team in a trade during the preseason, has performed with a batting average of .212 and an OPS of .537 in 46 games this season. According to Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro, Canha’s injury doesn’t seem serious.
In a corresponding move, infielder Cam Devanney was promoted from Triple-A Omaha. Devanney will make his MLB debut in his first appearance with the team, although he wasn’t in the starting lineup on Tuesday. To make room on the 40-man roster, left-handed pitcher Cole Ragans was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Ragans has been on the injured list since June 11 due to a strain in his left rotator cuff. Quatraro explained that Ragans’ movement was strictly “procedural”.I did some research. Epicondylitis is ‘tennis elbow’. It’s been bothering him for a week or so. He thought he’d get over it and turn things around. But a couple of swings yesterday really aggravated it and he’s more sore. He knew he wasn’t going to be able to make good swings at the ball.

It gives us a spot on the list to call up. He won’t be back by that date (when he’s eligible to return from the 60-day list), so there was no risk to us in doing it. And it gives us the spot on the 40-man roster.

I started throwing yesterday, so I don’t really have a full schedule, but it will be much further along in the throwing progression. We needed a spot on the list, and that made sense. Literally, it doesn’t change anything about how I’ll come back, or when I’ll come back.

So his versatility and another right-handed hitter was something we were looking for. He could be a versatile player off the bench, which is what he will be tonight, but we won’t be afraid to play him either.
