Tragedy in Barahona: Young person loses their life after being shot in Villa Central
A tragic event has shocked the community of Villa Central, in the province of Barahona, following the death of a young man during the early hours of this Sunday. The victim, identified as Luis Alberto Cuevas Rubio, popularly known as “Cuto”, lost his life as a result of a gunshot wound to the neck.
Following the incident, the young man was rushed to the Dr. Jaime Mota Regional University Hospital. Despite the efforts of the medical staff in the emergency area, Cuevas Rubio passed away while receiving the necessary care to attempt to stabilize his health condition.

So far, the details regarding how the altercation originated remain under investigation. Authorities have not yet clarified the exact circumstances of the event, nor have they identified the person responsible for firing the shot that took the young man’s life.
Given this situation, agents from the Central Investigation Directorate (DICRIM), attached to the Southern Regional Sub-directorate of the National Police, have taken over the case. The officers are actively working on collecting evidence and testimonies at the crime scene with the goal of identifying those involved and bringing the case to justice.
The National Police maintains its commitment to clarifying this unfortunate event, deepening the investigations to determine the corresponding legal responsibilities.
