FC Barcelona cancels tribute to world champions following recent institutional tensions
FC Barcelona has made the decision to suspend the recognition ceremony that was scheduled for its eight players who are world champions with the Spanish national team. This tribute was planned to take place prior to the league match between the azulgrana side and Athletic Club de Bilbao.
The decision was communicated directly by the entity’s president, Joan Laporta, through the club’s official channels. The executive explained that, after analyzing the current situation, it was considered that the ideal conditions did not exist to carry out the event originally proposed by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
We have decided that the act of recognition for the Barça players who won the World Cup, which was proposed to us by the Royal Spanish Football Federation, will not take place because the context is not right, nor is it the most appropriate moment.
