Mets Suffer Losses in Their Pitching Rotation
New York – The New York Mets announced this Thursday roster moves, significantly affecting their pitching staff. Paul Blackburn and Dedniel Núñez were placed on the 15-day injured list, adding more problems to a team that has struggled on the mound.
Blackburn, right-handed pitcher, is suffering from shoulder inflammation. The 31-year-old player has had a complicated start to the season, recording an ERA of 7.71 in six appearances, including four starts, since his debut last month.
For his part, Nuñez, also a right-handed pitcher, is out of action due to a strain in his elbow. Nuñez, 29, had already been absent for two months last season due to a forearm injury and this year accumulated an ERA of 4.66 in 10 appearances as a reliever.
In addition to the injuries, the Mets sent right-handed pitcher Blade Tidwell to their Triple-A team in Syracuse.
To cover the absences, the Mets called up Justin Hagenman, Rico Garcia, and Austin Warren from Syracuse.
