Avalanche Ready to Retain Bowen Byram

The Buffalo Sabres have made it clear that they will match any offer received by defenseman Bowen Byram, but they are also open to considering trade offers that immediately improve the team, according to General Manager Kevyn Adams. Byram, 24, is a restricted free agent. Adams stated that he is not interested in letting Byram leave via an offer from another team, which would give the Sabres draft picks.

We believe Bo is an excellent hockey player who can help our team win.

Adams added that, despite this, they are willing to evaluate any offer that benefits the team and improves the squad. The general manager emphasized that the team is prepared to match any offer Byram receives.

The decisions we’ve made over the weeks are made with that in mind. We will be matching and have the opportunity to have a player under contract that we believe helps our team win.

The Sabres acquired Byram, who was the No. 4 pick of the 2019 NHL Draft by the Avalanche, in a deal with Colorado at the 2024 trade deadline. In the 2024-25 season, Byram participated in all 82 games, achieving a personal record of 38 points (seven goals, 31 assists). In 246 games played with the Avalanche and the Sabres, Byram has accumulated 110 points (33 goals, 77 assists), as well as 313 blocks and 337 hits.
