Hospital modernization: Nuestra Señora de Regla Hospital receives state-of-the-art CT scanner
The National Health Service (SNS) has taken a significant step in strengthening medical care in the Peravia province. Dr. Julio César Landrón, executive director of the institution, formally delivered an advanced CT scanner to the Nuestra Señora de Regla Provincial Hospital in Baní, equipment that promises to transform the region’s diagnostic capacity.
This new medical equipment stands out for its high technology, featuring 128 slices and integrated artificial intelligence, which allows for the acquisition of high-precision three-dimensional images. One of the most notable advantages for patients is its ability to reduce radiation exposure by 80%, representing a crucial advancement for the treatment of pediatric patients and those requiring constant monitoring.
It constitutes a transcendental step for the Southern region, the provinces of Peravia, Azua, Ocoa and the entire surrounding area, to have a state-of-the-art tomograph in the middle of that great highway.

Impact on regional public health
The incorporation of this CT scanner marks a milestone for the health center, being the first time that the Nuestra Señora de Regla Hospital has had a service of this nature. Thanks to this acquisition, citizens in the area will no longer have to travel to other parts of the country or bear the high costs that these highly complex studies entailed in the private sector.
During the handover ceremony, Dr. Landrón highlighted the Government’s commitment to free and accessible services within the Public Health Network, emphasizing that today thousands of Dominicans access surgical and diagnostic procedures without compromising their family assets.
Operational details of the new service
- Technical capacity: The equipment uses helical technology to optimize workflow and diagnostic precision.
- Training: The technical staff in charge of operating the CT scanner has received specialized training at the Dr. Ney Arias Lora Traumatology Teaching University Hospital.
- Schedule: The service will be available to the entire community during extended hours from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The hospital director, Dr. José Lara Brea, expressed his gratitude for the support received, highlighting the transparency in resource management that has allowed for the strengthening of the center’s infrastructure. For her part, the provincial governor, Ángela Yadira Báez, described the arrival of the equipment as a golden opportunity to improve the quality of life and preventive medical care throughout the Peravia province.
