Kerry Carpenter to the Injured List with Hamstring Issues
The Detroit Tigers have decided to place outfielder Kerry Carpenter on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring injury, according to manager AJ Hinch this Tuesday.
In response to this situation, the Tigers plan to call up infielder Trey Sweeney from their Triple-A team, Toledo.
A magnetic resonance exam performed on Monday did not reveal significant damage to Carpenter. However, manager Hinch has indicated that the team, leader of the American League, will act with caution given that there are only 12 games left before the All-Star break.
Carpenter, 27 years old, has a batting average of .257, with 16 home runs and 32 RBIs in the 78 games played this season, his fourth with the team.
For his part, Sweeney, 25, has recorded a batting average of .221, with four home runs and 23 RBIs in 70 games with the Tigers this season. Sweeney was sent to Toledo last Saturday.
