The Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedom) has launched its development tournaments for the 2026 season. The highlight of this start is the “6th National U6 Championship Frank Camilo Category,” an event that will pay a well-deserved tribute to the former Major League player and prominent member of the national coaching staff, Welington Castillo.

The competition, designed to foster talent in 5 and 6-year-old children, is scheduled to open this Sunday, August 23rd. The sporting event will take place at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center facilities, focusing its main activity at Play Number 3 “Héctor Tito Pereyra” starting at 9:00 in the morning.

A recognition of the trajectory

Juan Núñez, president of Fedom, highlighted that the decision to dedicate this championship to Castillo was made unanimously by the entity’s Executive Committee, motivated by his impeccable professional and personal trajectory.

Welington Castillo is an icon for the Dominican Republic; he is one of those people who serves as an example to follow for children, young people, and also for adults. On and off the field, he has proven to be a leader who has very high values to exhibit for everyone.
