Nidio Encarnación Santiago assumes the executive directorship of UTEPDA
The Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Paíno Henríquez, formalized the appointment of Nidio Encarnación Santiago as the new executive director of the Technical Executing Unit for Agroforestry Development Projects (UTEPDA). The swearing-in ceremony took place at the entity’s headquarters, marking a strategic institutional transition.
This appointment is in response to the recent provisions of the Executive Branch during the month of August. Encarnación Santiago arrives to succeed agronomist Frank Alejandro Herasme, who was at the head of the institution for the last two years.
Commitment to agroforestry development
During the ceremony, Minister Henríquez underscored the fundamental role that UTEPDA plays in the preservation of natural resources and the promotion of progress in the country’s rural areas. Likewise, he spoke positively of the outgoing management and wished the new administration success.
The management will be oriented towards converting institutional decisions into concrete solutions for rural communities, promoting sustainable productive practices that ensure the well-being of families.

For his part, the Vice Minister of Forest Resources, Elías González, emphasized the importance of continuing current projects, highlighting that forest conservation must go hand in hand with the generation of economic opportunities for the inhabitants of the affected communities.

Upon assuming his new responsibilities, the new chief executive officer outlined the main pillars of his management, among which stand out:
- Strengthening the institutional presence in the territories with close support for producers.
- Consolidation of strategic alliances with local governments, the private sector, academia, and cooperation agencies.
- Result measurement based on the real impact on families and the effective recovery of ecosystems.
With the arrival of Nidio Encarnación Santiago, UTEPDA begins a new stage focused on integrating agroforestry development with environmental protection, maintaining the commitment to transform the reality of rural communities through effective and sustainable public policies.
