Luis Gómez calls for firmness and respect for human rights from the new director of the National Police
The deputy of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) for San Pedro de Macorís, Luis Gómez, expressed his confidence in the recent appointment of Major General Ernesto Rodríguez García as the new director general of the National Police. The legislator emphasized that the new incumbent faces the challenge of strengthening citizen security and combating crime with determination, while always maintaining strict adherence to human rights and the current legal framework.
When analyzing the current landscape, Gómez pointed out that the previous administration failed to meet the population’s expectations during its time at the head of the institution. For this reason, he urged the citizenry to grant a vote of confidence to the new leadership so that it can demonstrate its operational and strategic capacity.
In those six months, expectations were not met, and we hope that this new Police chief can fulfill what the population demands.

Challenges in the internal structure
For the congressman, one of the critical points that Major General Rodríguez García must address is internal coordination. According to his analysis, when a commander assumes leadership from an external position, they may face communication barriers with the upper and middle ranks of the institution.
- Strengthen the communication channel between management and middle management.
- Articulate effective strategies that allow for coordinated execution of police duties.
- Regain public trust through tangible results on the streets.
Security with order and legality
Luis Gómez was emphatic in declaring that firmness against crime should not be synonymous with abuses. The deputy maintains that it is possible to maintain public order without violating the fundamental guarantees of citizens, combining authority, discipline, and strict respect for the Constitution.
Finally, the legislator expressed his hope that this new stage will achieve greater closeness between the National Police and the community, transforming the perception of insecurity into an environment of tranquility for all Dominicans through decisive actions that adhere to the law.
