ITLA promotes technological democratization with 36,000 scholarships nationwide
The rector of the Instituto Tecnológico de las Américas (ITLA), Jimmy Rosario, presented the significant progress of his administration, highlighting an ambitious educational expansion plan that seeks to bring high-quality technical training to every corner of the Dominican Republic. The central axis of this project is the delivery of 36,000 scholarships, an initiative designed to close the digital and geographical gap in the 31 provinces and the National District.
ITLA celebrates 26 years of transforming talent and driving innovation… We are the real engine of technological transformation in the Dominican Republic.
Jimmy Rosario, ITLA Rector
Scope and training process
The strategy seeks to democratize access to high-demand careers, allowing young people from remote areas, such as Jimaní or Montecristi, to have the same opportunities as those residing in large urban centers. Of the 36,000 total scholarships, 15,600 have already been assigned, while the rest will be available for the last quarter of the year.
- Areas of study: The academic offering includes more than 100 technical courses in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, mechatronics, and video game development.
- Modalities: The institution combines in-person instruction at its campuses with a robust virtual education platform.
- How to apply: Interested parties can access the institution’s official portal to complete the requirements, which include placement tests according to the chosen area.
Strategic expansion and technological future
ITLA’s growth is evident in its infrastructure, expanding from 12 to 16 centers, with the goal of reaching 24 campuses by next year. New locations in La Romana, Hato Mayor, Puerto Plata, and Barahona are part of this rollout. Additionally, the institute is committed to faculty specialization, awarding 200 scholarships to university professors in advanced disciplines such as quantum computing and cryptography.
Rosario also confirmed the modernization of its 18 current degree programs to integrate artificial intelligence, in addition to the creation of innovative programs in bioinformatics, agrotech —with a focus on cocoa—, electromobility, and semiconductors.
Efficient management and future vision
One of the key points highlighted by the rector was administrative optimization. With a constant budget of 800 million pesos, the institution has managed to quintuple the number of scholarships awarded compared to previous administrations. According to Rosario, the key has been a rigorous and transparent management of institutional resources.
As part of his outreach work, the rector announced the launch of his book titled “AI: The Power Behind the Shadows” for the month of October, where he explores the current impact of artificial intelligence on modern society.
