Two employees arrested for fuel theft at San Francisco de Macorís road project

The Northeast Regional Directorate of the National Police has reported the arrest of two construction workers, who are under investigation for their alleged involvement in the theft of fuel within the Circunvalación project in San Francisco de Macorís.

The individuals involved, identified as Sandy González, 51, and Elmer Ismael Polanco Fernández, 35, were apprehended following a rapid intervention by local authorities.

Details of the police operation

The operation originated on the night of August 17th, after receiving a report from the construction site security manager, Luis Alberto Morales, who alerted about the theft of diesel fuel. A police unit, led by First Lieutenant Carlos Vázquez Morales, intercepted the suspects while they were traveling in a white Mazda vehicle along the main street of Génimo, in the vicinity of the Las Guamas sector.

The detainees allegedly confessed to having stolen two fuel tanks, which were sold for a value of 15,000 pesos to an individual nicknamed “Carlitos”.

Evidence and next legal steps

  • During the search, the 15,000 pesos in cash were seized from Polanco Fernández, a sum that allegedly corresponds to the illicit transaction.
  • The National Police has confirmed that both individuals will be transferred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to face the corresponding judicial process.
  • Investigations remain active with the goal of locating the subject identified as “Carlitos” and fully clarifying the scope of this criminal activity.
