Aitana Bonmatí is discharged after suffering viral meningitis

The star of the Spanish national team, Aitana Bonmatí, has been discharged from the hospital after recovering from viral meningitis. The footballer will rejoin the team in the coming days.

Bonmatí was hospitalized for “several days”, but was discharged on Sunday, as confirmed by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

The 27-year-old player missed the 3-1 friendly win against Japan on Friday.

This news arrives at a crucial moment, as Spain prepares for its first European Championship match against Portugal on July 3rd.

Bonmatí, a Barcelona player who also won the FIFA World Player award in 2023 and 2024, has scored 30 goals for Spain in 78 matches, playing a key role in winning the Women’s World Cup in 2023 and the Women’s Nations League last year.

Spain will face Belgium and Italy in Group B, seeking to add another trophy to their record after winning the 2023 World Cup.
