Indomet forecasts rain and maintains surveillance on two tropical disturbances
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has issued a detailed report on the weather conditions that will affect the national territory in the coming hours. The combination of an active tropical wave and an upper-level trough will continue to cause rainfall of varying intensity in several provinces of the country.
During the morning, local showers and downpours are expected, mainly over the Caribbean coast and the northeast region. As the afternoon progresses, atmospheric instability will concentrate in the provinces of Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, La Vega, Duarte, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, and Monte Cristi.
Precipitation could be locally moderate to heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts, conditions that will begin to decrease significantly by nightfall.
System alerts and monitoring
Due to the latent risk of urban flooding, the National Forecast Center maintains a meteorological alert for Greater Santo Domingo, the National District, San Cristóbal, and Peravia. Authorities urge citizens to stay informed and follow the recommendations of emergency agencies.
Internationally, Indomet is closely monitoring two tropical disturbances:
- A system located between the west coast of Africa and the Lesser Antilles, which has an 80% chance of cyclonic development over the next seven days.
- A second disturbance south/southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, with a 30% chance of development in 48 hours and a 50% chance in one week.
On the other hand, Tropical Depression Cristobal, located west of the Azores islands, is in the process of dissipating and poses no danger to the Dominican Republic.
Forecast for Greater Santo Domingo
For the National District and the municipalities of the Santo Domingo province, morning cloud increases are anticipated with the presence of showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts. Subsequently, during the afternoon, a hot environment will prevail.
Temperatures will remain high, with minimum readings between 24 °C and 26 °C, while maximums will reach values between 32 °C and 34 °C. Alofoke Deportes recommends that the population stay alert to official updates to prevent any eventuality related to weather conditions.
