The National Symphony Orchestra celebrates 85 years of history with a spectacular 2026 Symphony Season
The National Symphony Orchestra (OSN) of the Dominican Republic is dressing up this year to commemorate its 85th anniversary. With a trajectory dating back to 1941, the institution has prepared a 2026 Symphonic Season that promises to reunite the local public with the most iconic pieces of the universal repertoire, consolidating its legacy as a pillar of national culture.
The main event will take place in the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater, where five master concerts will be presented between August 12 and November 4. This program is the result of a joint effort between the Ministry of Culture, the General Directorate of Fine Arts, the Sinfonía Foundation, and the National Symphony Orchestra itself.
A tour of the great masterpieces
The inaugural season kicks off on August 12th under the baton of maestro José Antonio Molina, presenting Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7 and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5. As a preamble, attendees will be able to enjoy the traditional musical appreciation talk, an educational space that has already become a hallmark of these cultural evenings.
The artistic itinerary will continue with featured presentations:
- August 26: Conducted by maestro Jaime Morales, with the participation of cellist Adriana Garcell, performing works by Dukas, Saint-Saëns, Fauré, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Manuel de Falla.
- September 2: Under the direction of Santy Rodríguez and guest violinist Scarlett Martínez, with a program that includes pieces by José Antonio Molina, Mendelssohn, and Rachmaninoff.
- October 7: A night dedicated exclusively to the music of Richard Wagner, under the direction of maestro José Antonio Molina.
- November 4: Closing gala celebrating the 85th anniversary of the OSN and the 40 years of the Sinfonía Foundation, with the performance of the monumental Symphony No. 2, Resurrection, by Gustav Mahler.
The 2026 Symphonic Season represents artistic excellence and the OSN’s commitment to cultivating new audiences, reaffirming its fundamental role in the development of academic music in the country.
